Greetings Writers & Teachers of Writers

Greetings Writers! It seems this semester has flown by far faster than normal. While we all eagerly await the end of yet another school year, the progression of our work together has been rewarding for me.

I have provided response to pieces received electronically. If there are works you've submitted but have yet to receive response, please email them to me and I'll respond in short order. I will check for submission and respond daily.

Additionally, please review the syllabus HAT sample to be reminded of an excerpt that meets standard. This should be your minimal goal. With our adaptation to the original requirement for the HAT, more emphasis is placed on the three pieces. Let's finish strong so that the grade you earn is the one you desire.

Here, we grow again.

  1. Join me Saturday, October 24 in making a meaningful difference in the lives of kids in crisis in Kentucky and Southern Indiana. I have taken an important step in supporting the mission of Home of the Innocents and will participate in Home Run 2009 at Bernheim Forest.

    Did you know that…

    - Home of the Innocents has up to 35 medically fragile children on the waiting list every night. These families are desperately in need of a bed in the Kosair Charities Pediatric Convalescent Center. In fact, there are medically fragile children who have waited 5 years.

    - There are 7,500 children in Kentucky in the foster care system, and more than 1,500 of these children depend on the services of the Home each year.

    - Children with autism are being diagnosed at epidemic rates – In the past four years, diagnoses of autism have nearly doubled nationwide, making this once-rare disorder one of the most prevalent conditions, more common than childhood cancer, diabetes and Down syndrome. The Home’s autism program is expanding rapidly to try and meet this growing need, but 55 families are on the waiting list to receive Home-to-Home Autism services.

The support of our local community is extremely important in helping the Home continue to meet the needs of kids in crisis in our region. They can’t do it without support from the community. My participation in Home Run 2008 will help raise funds that will benefit programs and services at the Home, and I need your help.

To sponsor me, simply click my personal page link at the bottom of this email. Once you are directed to my personal fundraising page, you will be able to place a donation of $25 or more online with your credit card. You can also send me a check, money order, or cash in any amount payable to "Home of the Innocents." Please be sure to include my name with donations you mail in so that I will receive credit for your donation.

You can also join me and register to walk or run by going to www.homerun2009.com. Click on “Register Here” at the top of the page. If you are unable to walk or run, please sponsor me or volunteer your time.

Once you register, the Home will send you information about this year’s Home Run by email. Please encourage your friends, family members, partners, and neighbors to register as well.

The Home of the Innocents is our community’s single most powerful and enduring resource to kids in crisis in our region, and this year you can be a part of that mission. Sponsor me today, or even better, register and walk or run with me on Saturday, October 24!
